Chapter Seventeen
It was Friday morning, and Selene was waking up, but she didn't want to wake up. She had a splitting headache and cramps. These were the moments when she wished women didn't have periods; men should have them instead. She didn't want to go to school today. She just wanted to lay in bed. Her headache was too severe to think about school things.
She got up still wearing pajamas. She walked to the bathroom and sat on the toilet. She sat there for a moment and considered not going to school today. She cleaned up and changed the pad in her panties. She walked back to her bed and flopped down.
Selene fell asleep, but her mother came into her room when she didn't see her daughter for breakfast. "Sweetie, it's time to get up for school," Athena informed her. "Why are you still in bed?"
"I'm on my period, Mom," Selene spoke with her voice muffled through the pillow. "I've got a really bad headache and cramps."
"I see. Stay in bed then. I'll grab you a pill." Athena left the room. 'As if I planned to get out of bed!' Selene thought to herself. She continued lying there with her face buried in her pillow until Athena returned with a pill (something to relieve the symptoms of her period) and a glass of orange juice.
"Take this, sweetheart," Athena told her daughter. "I will get you a heating pad to alleviate the cramps as well."
Selene rolled over onto her back and sat up slowly. She scooted over to the edge of the bed, hung her feet off the side, and received the pill from her mother. Then, she took the glass of orange juice into her right hand. Selene's left hand raised to her mouth, and she inserted the pill. Then, she took a big gulp of orange juice to wash it down.
Athena left the room as Selene continued to sip on her orange juice. Three minutes later, she returned with a heating pad. "Put this on your tummy when you finish your orange juice." Selene drank the rest of her orange juice and traded the empty glass for the heating pad. Selene leaned back until the back of her head was resting on her pillow, and she raised the top of her pajamas so that her stomach was exposed. She placed the heating pad over her belly. Athena observed this and left the room. Selene fell asleep again.
Selene woke up three hours later. She felt rested. Her headache was gone, and she didn't feel any cramps. She could still go to school to catch her afternoon classes, but she thought it was better to miss the rest of the day since she already missed history class. She took her phone out of her purse and scanned her finger print. "Call Zack," she commanded.
A few seconds later, Zack's hologram appeared on her phone's platform. "Hey, what's going on?" Zack inquired. "I didn't see you in history class today."
"You know that I'm on my period," Selene explained.
